i have zero motivation right now...papers due, tests for the next three days...don't want to study, don't want to write...zero motivation. i guess i should be happy summer break is here, but what will i do? i'll be excited for a week(ish), then i'm sure the boredom will set in and there isn't much work around...so what the H will i do, let's take a look at the possibilities.
1) vacation?...too broke, so that's out
2) work?...not much doing but i will be looking, might account for some time til next fall
3) hang-out?...i should be working or something like that instead of being lazy, but it's tempting
4) Great America Water Park...sounds like a good buzz day or two to kill, but still pricey
5) be a productive human being and do good for society as a whole?...F**k that, i hope to be too busy.
oh well, i'm sure before i know it i'll be saying, "shit...where the hell did summer go? now class starts next week and i don't have my shit together..."

Praise the Glorious Swine....
i was worried about the future of the swine with this new vast conspiracy against my beloved meat of choice! i know the other white meat and the red meat villains are behind this!!! bastards!!! pork is awesome, i just had a ham/turkey/and bacon club to protest against this belligerently biased attack on the smartest of all barn animals! i mean just read "animal farm"...that spells it out, pigs rule and they will not be held down because of some market driven media event...unless is a sweet commercial for "Moo and Oink"...but that's all about the kitch...pigs have the ability to laugh and make fun of themselves 'cause their good like that. anyway, don't let the H1N1 hold you back from those glorious baby backs, or that mouth watering brisket! mmm mmm gooood, slop a little sweet baby rays on there, fork in one hand and a slice of white bread w/a pad 'o butter in the other and your good to go...slop it up!!!

It's Kill a Bunny Time Again...or is it just another resurection?
here is some good info from www.wisegeek.com
At the time of the birth of Christ, there were several active mystery religions, which celebrated the resurrection of the gods. Chief among these is the rebirth of Dionysus, and the Dionysian pagan rituals observed in spring. Prior to that, Babylonian pagan rituals, and those of other religions may have influenced the very name of Easter. Easter is supposedly named after the goddess, Oestre, an Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility.
The egg of course is the ultimate symbol of potential fertility. Decorating eggs existed long before Christianity and thus can be considered one of the pagan rituals. However, if we go farther we must extend the idea of the death and resurrection of Christ as the observation of pagan rituals. The abundance of mystery religions at the time sheds doubt on Christ’s resurrection. Most Christians care naught for the fact that pagan rituals worship similar things because they firmly believe in the resurrection of Christ as set down in the Bible.
The Easter bunny, however, appears not to be a borrowing from pagan rituals. Mention of the Easter Hare is first found in Germany in the 1500s. So it may be considered a wholly post-Christian conception. However, hiding the eggs reconnects us back to the pagan traditions regarding the coloring of eggs.
Most Christians who celebrate these holidays are less concerned with origins that bear no significance to them, as these pagan rituals are made new by the coming of Christ. Many are more concerned with the increased commercialization surrounding holidays, particularly Christmas. The more emphasis on gifts, the less on Christ’s birth. Especially young children may be more concerned about the presents and miss the importance of the Savior’s birth, which as many Christians know, did not occur in December.

Here am I,
for what and why? well obviously to further my social and moral well being...seriously...like trying to beat back a partialy digested second taste of that nasty late night burrito, i was sick of trying to make a living in the music "industry" once again, found myself re-watching it decay like some poor hard luck squirrel smeared into the curb half dangling down the sewage; i knew i could make a change...so fuck it, i'll go back to school for while, make some contacts, maybe teach or assist in the audio production department while i'm here...i've been transitioning from music to sonic imagery over the last few years, it's almost taken me back to my roots working with audio on computers in the mid '80s, funny, nearly full circle...is that what they call wisdom? is it a bad thing??? is it my Professional Doppleganger...shit...FUUUUU**
oh well who really cares anyway, a black man is president; we're all dead!!!!

Broadcast Media and the "Intern"...
since the collapse of the advertising industry in Chicago, [so i'm dramatic] i've been paying close attention to "jobs" and the quality of commercials and the technical side of broadcasting...crap!...it seems the "jobs" available today for highly skilled professionals are filled by what the industry prefers, interns that will work for free or some assemblage of compensation. it's amazing to me to see how many commercials have dialogue that is not in sync with the picture, the amount of horrible edits, inconsistent audio levels within the commercial, basic bad mixing, continuity problems, plain horrible writing, the list can go on and on but it's not worth the virtual paper or wear and tear on my computer...now lets talk about the music licensing fad while we're at it, puke. don't know about you, but when i hear a commercial that uses some bands song for their spot "branding", it really can kill the product or the song/band for me...granted it's almost the only way a band can make any money these days, or rather the only way the publisher can make money, bands hardly ever really "make" money.
here's my problem; if i don't like the product i probably won't listen to the music, if i don't like the "song" i won't pay attention to the product. i become annoyed and change the channel or hit mute. what i really can't stand is when a classic band i like sells their song(s) to a product...my music euphoria has been reduced to equating it/them with the latest douche that's fresher than the last "medical breakthrough" in feminine hygiene, some companies yogurt, the freshest feeling tampon, jock-ich medicine, herpes pills, hard-on pills, shitty cars...whatever the hell it is they sold out to...seriously! you really need that cash? probably not...
in closing, WTF agencies...stop using interns for what the weren't designed to do, they should be learning from professionals not taking their jobs, and pleeeze resist using whatever the hell song was on the interns i-pod that week for you background track...most of it doesn't fit anyway, it's just a bullshit trend. take the time to properly brand your product, research shows that people don't buy something from a tv commercial that uses a bands song, just because of the song...Paaalease, agencies...get your head out of your arses, that shit sucks!

interstellar space
Kurt wanted me to check out this drummer he thought i would like, his name is Rashied Ali, bad ass...
the album is John Coltrane's "Interstellar Space", a duet, drums and sax...i had never heard anything like it. hearing musicians play free was a style i had not been exposed to. blue jazz, big band, fusion...i was very familiar with jazz but not like this...something very special indeed. it reminds me of a fractal; so much detail and still there is endless space. they seem to play in shapes and colors...the flurries between them and alone is really magical.
this led me to more of Coltrane's 'academic' jazz, ohm, meditations, ascension...full bands on these, unreal musicianship; Elvin Jones is playing drums on these now also, some with Rashied some without...Elvin has a completely different style, more animistic than Ali's surgical style...i love the great Elvin, i listened to him quite a bit with Coltrane's classic quartet...Coltrane, Tyner, Garrison and Jones...that is some spiritual music...i would have to say that in my opinion that group recorded the definitive version of "my favorite things"...it's absolutely mind blowing...i had the great fortune of seeing, photographing and meeting Elvin; Coltrane's son Ravi was playing with him too...pretty great night.
